We often talk about the Christmas spirit, but sometimes I don’t think we see it as often as we speak about it. Ashley and Steve’s wedding embodied what we believe Christmas is in our hearts. It is being with those we love most important, sharing a meal together, laughing and telling stories, hugging someone you have not seen in ages, toasting to new love and old. When your soon-to-be fiancé loves the snow and ice-skating, what could be better than proposing to her in Lake Placid? While also planning a snowy Adirondack engagement session in the forest for the next day! When Chris reached out to me about his surprise proposal plan in Lake Placid, I was on board from the start. Paige grew up spending time with her family in the Adirondacks, which could not have been more memorable.

We drew our inspiration for the elopement from the mountains’ wonder and magic in the depths of autumn. The grasses in the valley fields turned copper, and the moss on the forest floor a deep velvet green that is the perfect complement to the yellow and orange leaves softly falling. The night skies are the deepest navy with stars like you have never seen before glowing like distance candles in the night.

When I asked Wendy and Jim what they envisioned for their wedding day at the Whiteface Lodge, “Casual, intimate, romantic and rustic” were the words they used to describe what they dreamed of for their wedding. I hope their wedding in the heart of the Adirondacks was everything that they hoped for and so much more.

When winter and spring collide it is pure magic in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. With soft warm breezes blowing through the valleys, and cool smooth ice still reflecting the blue skies above it is enough to take your breath away. This isn’t the beginning of their love story though…
